Coach Karen Hodgdon has enjoyed a diverse and successful athletic and coaching career. A successful multi-sport athlete in high school Karen was fortunate enough to grow in a talented and academically rigorous athletic department at Denison High School. Karen enjoyed going above the ordinary, helping propel her team into school history with two unprecedented deep runs into the volleyball playoffs at Denison High School.
Karen’s college experience began under the tutelage of Bill Hamiter (current Head Coach and High Performance Director of USA Volleyball Sitting Teams). As a collegiate player, Karen was a contributing member of the Southern Nazarene University Volleyball team that won two district championships, two regional championships and qualified for two NAIA National Tournaments, while maintaining a national ranking inside the top 20.
As a coach, Karen has served the sport of volleyball with USA volleyball, the NJCAA, and UIL. She has been a volleyball coach with USA Volleyball, an assistant at the NJCAA level and Head Volleyball Coach on the high school level. Karen has worked with athletes from the elementary age to the collegiate athlete, in every dynamic possible. Karen has served as the author of a local district curriculum for the implementation of a volleyball program from grades 3-12.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Karen enjoyed working with aircraft as an OH-58 Helicopter Repairer/Crewchief. Karen is proud to currently have a son in the U.S. Navy. Karen earned her B.S. and M.S. in Kinesiology from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2000 and 2007, respectively. She is married and currently resides in Rockwall, TX with her husband Lindsay and daughter Kelsey.
Karen knows what it takes to achieve success on various levels and she believes that all sports provide an opportunity for character development. Sports also inspire confidence, develop integrity and promote a sense of ethics. Furthermore, Karen believes athletics and sports provide a cohort of training options, from high school, to club, to private instruction , and collectively, will help athletes achieve their best potential, no matter their sport of choice.
